First Visit

Brief Paperwork

Upon entering the office, we have some brief paperwork for you to fill out. The paperwork provides us with important information about yourself and your health condition.

Consultation

Once the paperwork has been completed, you will have a consultation with the doctor to discuss your health-related problems and concerns, as well as potential treatment options.

History and Examination

Your exam will consist of two parts. First, in order to clarify the history of your condition, Dr. Pontious will talk with you about your health and ask you questions so that he can give you the best possible care. A number of specialized tests will be performed to determine which tissues are affected and to what extent. He will also perform a thorough spinal and nerve system exam which includes checking your spine by hand to feel areas of your spine that may be restricted, inflamed, injured or out of alignment. Second, your exam will include a computerized evaluation with the Millennium Insight Subluxation Station. This device, which is totally non-invasive, scans the skin temperature on both sides of your spine to detect assymetries. If your nerve system is functioning normally, the temperature of your skin should be equal bilaterally. The "Sub Station" also scans the electrical activity of the muscles around your spine, giving Dr. Pontious very accurate information regarding how your spine and nerve system are functioning, and where you are having problems that can be helped with chiropractic care.

X-ray Studies

Your specific condition may require us to take x-rays to see a "blueprint" of your spine and also to rule out more serious conditions that can cause spinal pain. X-rays give Dr. Pontious crucial information about your spinal condition and help him to decide on the most effective treatment plan for you.

Home Instructions

Prior to leaving, patients will be given instructions on certain activities or procedures to be conducted at home. This may include ice or heat application instructions, avoidance of certain activities or positions, or home exercises and/or stretches.

Schedule Your Next Appointment

You will be given a convenient appointment time for your follow-up visit. Generally speaking, patients are seen within 1-2 days and are provided with a complete review of findings. Treatment options for your condition will also be discussed during this time.
